Will My Insurance Cover Dental Emergencies?2018-07-17T21:37:01-06:00

Majority of dental insurances cover emergency work under the “basic” coverage. This may include an exam and an xray, and services such as a Root Canal Therapy or am extraction. Even if you need a tooth fixed due to a chip or a break, this is also considered basic dental work if it is restored with filling material.

Will Fillings on my Front Teeth be Considered ‘Cosmetic’?2018-07-20T23:17:05-06:00

Dental fillings can be used to restore and strengthen decayed teeth.  They may also be used to improve an individual’s smile, where teeth have been discoloured or shortened due to wear.  This is not generally viewed as ‘elective’ or ‘cosmetic’ treatment and hence more insurances will cover it under basic treatment.

White Fillings vs. Silver Fillings2018-07-17T22:56:08-06:00

At Yankee Valley Dental, we primarily use white fillings; however, silver fillings may be more appropriate in certain situations. One benefit of white fillings is that they can be blended into different shades to match your natural tooth colour, allowing Dr. Parsa to do natural-looking fillings on both front and back teeth. Gold and porcelain inlays and on-lays (partial coverage crowns) may be more suitable for some situations. Dr. Parsa will sit with you to discuss your options and the pros and cons. Your choice will depend on the location of the tooth and personal preferences.

When Should Wisdom Teeth Be Removed?2018-07-17T21:32:04-06:00

Wisdom Teeth are recommended to be taken out between ages 16 and 18. While not every wisdom tooth needs to be taken out, they can start to cause discomfort or form a cyst or malignancy in later years.

When is a Root Canal is Not the Appropriate Treatment for Me?2018-07-20T14:29:01-06:00

Some instances a root canal might not be the best solution for your issue. For example:

The tooth has lost too much structure due to a cavity and is not repairable

The tooth has had too much bone loss due to periodontal (gum) disease

If a root canal is not an option, Dr. Parsa will discuss other options for you, such as a dental implant , bridge or partial dentures.

When Do Veneers Not Work?2018-07-20T14:08:12-06:00

Veneers are not the solution for every cosmetic issue. Veneers are irreversible, so you will want to discuss with Dr. Parsa whether they are the right long-term option. If you tooth has a decay or you have periodontal disease (gum disease) , you should treat these issues first. If you grind or clench your teeth, porcelain veneers may chip or break.

In addition, veneers are also not possible if too much of your tooth or enamel is missing. In this case a crown may be a better option to give your tooth added stability and function. If you have stains or discolouration, you might consider teeth whitening , which can be a cheaper and less intrusive option. And of course, crooked, crowded or misaligned teeth may be better fixed with clear or conventional braces.

When do adult teeth start to come in?2023-09-06T13:36:49-06:00

Your child’s first adult teeth will come in by the age of six or seven years. These molars slowly begin appearing behind the baby teeth in the back of the mouth. Moreover, this is the time when your kid’s baby teeth will begin falling out.

Your child will likely have all of his or her adult teeth by age 12. The most common problems we see in children are cavities and gum disease. The occurrence and severity of either can be significantly minimized with a consistent brushing and flossing regime.

What’s the best way to prepare my kid for their first dental checkup?2023-09-06T13:37:56-06:00

You can help prepare your child by talking to them about what to expect, using positive language, and reading children’s books or showing videos that explain what a dentist does in a kid-friendly way.

What will happen during my child’s first dentist appointment?2023-09-06T13:38:19-06:00

A dental check-up for a child typically involves a thorough examination of their teeth and gums, a gentle cleaning, and a discussion about oral hygiene practices.

What is Periodontal Disease?2018-07-20T12:42:00-06:00

Periodontal disease is caused by bacteria in the mouth. This bacteria and food debris creates plaque, the sticky material that forms over your teeth. If not removed by tooth brushing the minerals in your saliva will harden plaque into tartar. Tartar is much tougher than plaque and cannot be removed by brushing – it requires a professional dental cleaning to be removed. One way that gum disease occurs is when tartar causes inflammation in the gums and bone around the tooth, eventually causing deterioration. It isn’t always this simple however, as genetics can play a strong role and some individuals can be susceptible to gum disease even with meticulous home care habits.

What Is A Porcelain Fused to Metal Crown2018-07-17T22:53:59-06:00

This is ‘best of both worlds’ as it has the colouring of a tooth, but has metal reinforcement underneath. The other benefit of these crowns is that they don’t necessarily have to be replaced if the porcelain chips away. It is worth noting that despite being ‘tooth-coloured’, porcelain fused to metal crowns do not look as natural as all ceramic crowns.

What Is A Full Gold Crown?2018-07-17T22:53:29-06:00

This is still the strongest material out there. A gold crown cannot chip, and the nature of the material also allows Dr. Parsa to take away less tooth structure when preparing for the crown. Another advantage of gold crowns is that they are gentle on the opposing teeth.

What Is A All Ceramic Crown2018-07-17T22:52:39-06:00

This is the most aesthetic of the three options and is most suitable if the tooth is at the front of your mouth. In the past, ceramic crowns were more brittle, but dental technology has come a long way and there are now materials out there that allows you to have a natural-looking crown without compromising strength.

What Does the Surgery Entail?2018-07-20T16:35:14-06:00

Dr. Parsa is experienced in wisdom teeth surgery, and as a general dentist is able to take out majority of wisdom teeth right in the office. The surgery may take one to two hours for all four teeth, including time for post-operative care instructions. Patients are given local anesthetics (freezings), and when the surgery is done, Dr. Parsa will stitch the area with sutures that will dissolve in 5 to 7 days.

Dr. Parsa will discuss the procedure in detail prior to the appointment. The surgery is usually a lot less scary than the patients envision it to be!

What do dental sealants do, and why would my child require them?2023-09-06T13:38:41-06:00

Dental sealants are slender protective coverings overlaying the chewing surfaces of rear teeth to avoid cavities. They’re often recommended for children to help protect their teeth from decay.

What Are Traditional Braces?2018-07-17T22:29:33-06:00

Braces work by using pressure to gradually move your teeth into place. Depending on your mouth, you may only need to move one or two teeth, but other times you may need to make adjustments to all your teeth. Dr. Parsa will create a customized map of the required teeth adjustments to get that optimal straight smile.

To put on conventional braces, Dr. Parsa will attach brackets to each tooth with glue, and then attach these brackets with an arch wire. Arch wires are typically held in place with rubber elastics or wire ties. The brackets can be metal or ceramic, and the rubber can be clear or coloured, depending on your preference.

What Are The Best Snacks For My Kids Teeth?2018-07-17T21:35:07-06:00

Best ‘teethfriendly’ snacks for kids are those that pH neutral. These include yogurt, cheese, and non-starchy vegetables. Fruits are nutrient-rich are very important for a balanced diet. To protect your little ones teeth, give your child some water following fruits to decrease the acid and sugar lingering in the mouth.

What Are Retainers?2018-07-17T22:39:28-06:00

Retainers are used to keep your teeth in their new position. Whether you choose traditional braces or Invisalign®, after your treatment you will want to consider using a retainer to help prevent your teeth from shifting back to their initial position. The longer your teeth are prevented from shifting, the more likely it is that the gum fibers will adjust, further mitigating the chance of movement. For the first three month you should wear the retainers full time, but after that period you can choose to wear them only at night.

What Are My Orthodontic Options ?2018-07-20T11:54:50-06:00

Yankee Valley Dental offers various options for orthodontic care, and Dr. Parsa will examine your mouth, discuss your options in detail and take into consideration your preferences and budget. She will show you pictures and even provide background reading if you need some time to think about it. If you are worried about the cost of orthodontic care, Yankee Valley Dental will consider your financial situation, work with your insurance companies and offer payment plans to make orthodontic treatment in Airdrie more affordable.

At Yankee Valley Dental, we offer both the traditional braces (i.e. brackets) or Invisalign® Aligner Therapy (also known as ‘clear’ braces). The best option to get results may be combining orthodontic treatment with other treatments such as extractions in case of severe crowding, or implant therapy in case of missing teeth.

What Are Common Dental Issues for Kids?2018-07-17T22:42:10-06:00

Kids teeth are susceptible to the same conditions and damage as adult teeth. In fact, tooth decay is one of the most common chronic childhood diseases. Regular check-up with Dr. Parsa will ensure that potential issues are identified before they become serious. Should any concerns arise, she will talk with with you and your child about what is going on and how it can be addressed. Solutions might include changing habits such thumb sucking or food choices and could include work such as white fillings or fluoride treatments to strengthen teeth.

Dr. Parsa will also watch how adult teeth are coming up and, if needed, work with you to plan for future orthodontics such as braces to solve issues with bite. Addressing orthodontic issues early can help solve current or future nutrition or speech problems.

What are Clear Braces for Adults or Invisalign®2018-07-17T22:37:59-06:00

Clear Braces for Adults – Invisalign® Aligner Therapy is offered at Yankee Valley Dental. Dr. Parsa is trained to offer Invisalign® Aligner Therapy, a virtually invisible and faster alternative to traditional braces. Each aligner shifts your teeth slightly, gradually moving your teeth into position. Dr. Parsa will create a 3D digital image of your teeth and map out a precise treatment plan that shows you the exact movements required. She will also be able to estimate how long it will take. Once you get your Invisalign Aligners, you’ll wear them for 20 to 22 hours a day, taking them out to eat, brush and floss. You’ll visit Dr. Parsa every six weeks or so to check your progress and make adjustments if needed.

Upper and Lower Full Dentures2018-07-17T21:55:02-06:00

Upper and lower full dentures are the conventional type of dentures for patients who require all their teeth to be removed (or already have them removed). They are made out of strong acrylic material.

The Benefits of Orthodontic Care2018-07-20T10:54:57-06:00

Obviously straighter teeth improve your smile and increase your confidence, but you’ll be happy to hear there are also a number of other benefits. Fixing your teeth through orthodontics can:

Make it easier to chew some foods
Decrease the chances of your teeth wearing down
Reduce muscle tension and pain in your jaw, head and neck
Decrease the likelihood of chipping
Make it easier to pronounce certain words

By straightening crooked and crowded teeth you can also make brushing and flossing easier, decreasing the likelihood of cavities, tooth decay or gum disease to periodontal.

Taking Care of Baby Teeth2018-07-20T21:38:13-06:00

While they do eventually fall out, baby teeth play an important role in helping your child bite, chew food and speak clearly. They also eventually guide permanent teeth into place. Taking care of baby teeth is also important because studies shows that children who develop cavities in their baby teeth are more likely to develop cavities as an adult.

The good news is that most dental issues are easy to get ahead of. Regular check-ups are not only an opportunity to have Dr. Parsa examine for common children’s dental concerns, it’s also an opportunity for you and your kids to learn about good dental hygiene from an expert. Dr. Parsa will take the time to teach you how to take care of your kids teeth and offer tips and strategies for brushing, flossing and fluoride-use. Research shows that if kids develop a good oral hygiene routine, they follow those good practices into adulthood.

Preparing For Wisdom Teeth Surgery2018-07-20T16:43:16-06:00

It is recommended you can fill your fridge with protein rich food that you can eat with a spoon. It is recommended that you don’t use a straw for at least 24 hours following the surgery in order to allow the blot clot to form normally. Hence we recommend that you have foods like ice cream and soup.  A milk shake is great if you can have it without a straw.

Payment Plan Options2019-04-01T12:34:14-06:00

We understand that dental treatment can be expensive. Some ways in which we try to accommodate our patients is by following the 2018 fee guide, and by direct billing to insurances. Even so, we understand that some treatments are not immediately affordable. For this reason we have decoded to join a service that allows our patents to get the treatment that they need, and make payment plans in ways that make them comfortable. With Health Smart you can find out if you qualify for financing within minutes. Dr. Parsa and her team will guide you in the application process.

Dr. Parsa guarantees her crown and bridge work for 5 years. If your crown or bridge requires replacement due to a mechanical failure or a bubble in the porcelain, Dr. Parsa will stand by her work. This does not include failure due to external trauma or recurrent decay around the work.

Dental bridges are sometimes a more expensive option, and Yankee Valley Dental will consider your financial situation, work with your insurance companies and offers payment plan to make treatments more affordable.

Partial Dentures2018-07-05T22:25:52-06:00

are ‘cast’ or made of metal. These are a cost-effective way to replace missing teeth and you can always add an extra tooth if you lose another one down the road. The metal reinforcement makes them a durable option.

My Tooth Is Broken Or Has A Fracture2018-07-17T22:21:54-06:00

If your tooth is broken or has a fracture a crown will encapsulate it and keep it from splitting further. If this is a dental emergency, please can be contact during or outside of office hours at 403-980-5588.

My Son/Daughter Fell and the Front Tooth is Tender…2018-07-20T21:10:37-06:00

When a tooth is faced with trauma, it may have to be stabilized before we assess if more work is necessary. Dr. Parsa may choose to put a silver wire inside the teeth, ‘splinting’ teeth together. This will keep the teeth from excessive movement and allow the tissues around them to tighten. Following this step, Dr. Parsa will sit down with you and your child to discuss whether any other treatment is required.

My Crown Came Off. Can it Simply be Re-cemented?2018-07-20T21:04:13-06:00

Sometimes yes. If the tooth structure underneath is sound, and the cement has simply separated from the tooth, the crown can be cleaned and cemented back on. Sometimes, however, the crown breaks at the gum line or with some tooth structure in it. In these cases, an alternate treatment may be necessary.  This could be a new crown if there is enough tooth structure or an extraction . If this is the case, Dr. Parsa will discuss possibilities such a crown, dental implant, a bridge, or partial denture.

Making Root Canal Procedures as Comfortable as Possible2018-07-20T14:33:20-06:00

Dr. Parsa will sit down with you to discuss the procedures and use photos and x-rays of your tooth to explain your dental situation. Root canal treatment are typically done in one appointment.

The first step is giving you ‘freezing’ (local anesthetic) and making sure you are comfortable. Dr. Parsa will then make a small opening at the top of your tooth to reach the root canal system. Using very fine instruments, she will remove the pulp and clean and enlarge the canal. She will then fill the canal with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. Depending on the location of the tooth, a crown may be required to further protect the tooth.

After root canal treatment, your tooth may be tender for the first week or two, but the pain is easily managed with pain prescriptions and altering your eating habits for a brief time (like don’t eat hard candy!).

Is My Bad Breath A Dental Issue?2018-07-17T21:48:25-06:00

Majority of people who have bad breath have a dental cause behind it. This may include a cavity, gum disease, or impacted wisdom teeth. Non-dental causes may include specific foods in the diet or intestinal problems. The best way to rule out a dental cause for halitosis, come see us at Yankee Valley Dental for an examination.

Gum disease has been linked to diabetes, heart diseases, stroke and pre-mature births. Dr. Parsa is passionate about helping to improve the overall health of her patients and she will take the time to ensure your gums are healthy so that you and your smile can be their best.

Is Fluoride Safe?2018-07-17T21:33:19-06:00

The effectiveness of fluoride in preventing tooth decay has been well document for decades. However, too much fluoride ingestion can cause a condition called fluorosis. For children who have yet to learn to spit effectively, it is best to use nonfluordated toothpaste, or use a grain sized amount once a day or every few days depending on cavity risk

Is A Mouth Guard Safe For Kids?2018-07-17T21:46:42-06:00

When kids are playing physical sports like hockey or basketball, mouth guards can save teeth! The mouth guards which are made in office are much tougher than what can be found over the counter in stores. Having said that, whether a mouth guard is suitable depends on the age of the patient and whether all their permanent teeth are in place. Until then, there is so much change in the mouth that over the counter mouth guards may be more appropriate.

Individualized Care2018-07-05T22:35:56-06:00

At Yankee Valley Dental, we know that each patient is an individual with specific needs. We book cleanings based on patient needs (e.g. a 7-year-old patient and 50-year-old patient require different amount of cleaning times). We believe that if we know our patients, we can serve them better, and Dr. Parsa takes the time to understand your medical history, lifestyle, dental habits and personal preferences so that she and the staff can provide the best care possible.

Implant-Supported Dentures2018-07-17T21:53:05-06:00

Implant supported dentures are the best option if you don’t have enough natural teeth and need to further stabilize the denture. Placing two to four implants on the bottom jaw can help stability those ‘rocking’ dentures, and improve their fit considerably.

I Need A Dental Implant2018-07-17T21:49:38-06:00

At Yankee Valley Dental you can get your dental implants done from start to finish. This includes the implant placement and the crown/bridge that goes overtop. We also work with our local denturist to do implant supported dentures.

I Have Pain and Swelling. Do I Need Antibiotics?2018-07-20T21:09:08-06:00

The short answer is: most likely. When there is swelling, the dental anesthetic (or freezing) may not be effective. We sometimes need to start you on antibiotics to get the swelling down before we can effectively numb the area to work on it. Dr. Parsa will discuss which antibiotics may be suitable for you, depending on the amount of swelling and any history of allergies.

I Have Pain After A Root Canal2018-07-18T22:30:29-06:00

Teeth can sometimes become brittle after a root canal and more susceptible to fracture. This is especially the case with your back teeth – a crown will keep the tooth together and help it from breaking.

I Have Discoloured or Misshapen Teeth2018-07-17T22:16:38-06:00

If you have discoloured or misshapen teeth a crown can be an option to give you natural-coloured and well-shaped teeth.

If you have a dental emergency, please can be contact Dr. Parsa during or outside of office hours at 403-980-5588. We are happy to help, including outside of regular office hours!

I Have a Sweet Tooth, What Can I Do?2018-07-21T18:03:54-06:00

Everyone knows that sweets can cause cavities. But what you may not know is that frequency of snacking plays a very important factor in development of cavities. For example, if you are eating the same amount of sweets in one sitting vs over the course of the day, cavities are more likely to develop in the latter case. This is because the teeth don’t get as much change to ‘remineralize’ themselves after multiple snacks. The best thing you can do is to drink lots of water to neutralize the pH in the mouth, and decrease the number of snacks.

I Have A Large Cavity Or Filling2018-07-17T22:17:04-06:00

If you have a large cavity or filling that is larger than 2/3 of the tooth structure, a crown will protect what is left of the tooth and help it function as needed.

I Have A Large Amount Of Tooth Decay2018-07-17T22:15:40-06:00

If any of your teeth have large tooth decay that cannot be fixed with filling material a crown can restore the teeth.

I Am Having Difficulty Opening My Mouth2018-07-17T22:23:45-06:00

TMJ or temporomandibular joint pain can result from wisdom teeth that need to be taken out. Impacted wisdom teeth can also cause a condition called Trismus, which is difficulty in opening your mouth. If you are suffering from TMJ pain or soreness, see us for a consultation. Dr. Parsa can go through all the potential causes for your discomfort, and help you find a solution.

How Porcelain Veneers Are Done?2018-07-20T14:09:23-06:00

Porcelain veneers take two dental visits. At your first visit, Dr. Parsa will sit down with you and go through the process. She will then give you some ‘freezing’ (local anesthetic) and ensure you’re comfortable. Next, she will remove a thin layer of the enamel from your teeth to make room for the veneer and take an impression (mold) of your teeth. This mold is sent to a professional dental lab where they create a custom-made veneer. Dr. Parsa will make you a temporary veneer until your next visit. At the second visit one week later, Dr. Parsa will remove the temporary veneer and the porcelain veneer is glued to your tooth using composite resin cement.

How many times should my child visit the dentist each year?2023-09-06T13:37:34-06:00

Children should generally have dental check-ups every six months. However, your dentist might recommend more frequent visits if your child has specific dental issues.

How Long Will I Need for Recovery for Wisdom Teeth Removal?2018-07-20T16:35:41-06:00

The recovery period for wisdom teeth removed is dependent on the individual and the difficulty of the surgery. It is recommended that patients take the evening and the day following surgery off of school or work. Some patients like to take more time off, while others feel that they are able to proceed with normal daily activities more quickly. It is important to refrain from strenuous exercise and heavy lifting following the surgery to minimize the risk of bleeding.

How Long does Orthodontic Treatment Take?2018-07-20T10:51:03-06:00

Because orthodontic treatment is based on the gradual movement of your teeth, it takes time to get results. The amount of time depends on your age, the seriousness of your malocclusion and the treatment technique used. Dr. Parsa is often able to provide you with an estimate of how long it will take at the initial consultation, but the average patient will wear braces for about 18 to 24 months.

A straight smile is within reach when you book a consultation for orthodontic care in Airdrie at Yankee Valley Dental. Let our friendly staff find the orthodontic solution for you!

How is a Dental Filling Done?2018-07-17T22:57:09-06:00

If you decide to do a filling, the work can almost always be done in one visit. Dr. Parsa will create a white filling that matches your tooth colour and then give you ‘freezing’ (or local anesthetic), so you don’t feel any pain. Your comfort is of upmost importance at Yankee Valley Dental. She then takes out all traces of the cavity or decayed tooth material and cleans the affected area. If the decay is near the root, Dr. Parsa may put in a liner to protect the nerve.

She will then insert the filling material in thin layers to rebuild the structure of your tooth. A special light, called a Blue Dental Curing Light, is used to set the filling material and make it hard. In the last steps, Dr. Parsa will adjust your bite and polish the filling to make sure that your bite fit together nicely and that you don’t have any rough areas or pain points.

How does Teeth Whitening through your Dentist Work?2018-07-20T16:07:03-06:00

At your first visit with Dr. Parsa, she will sit down with you to discuss your teeth whitening options, including whether you can use other options such as cosmetic bonding <Link>, porcelain veneers <link> or dentals crowns <link>.

Should you decide to go with a professional take-home kit, Dr. Parsa will do an impression of your teeth and make a custom tray. It takes approximately five business days to create your tray.

At your second appointment, Dr. Parsa will provide you with your custom tray and bleaching solution and go through how to use it. Two weeks is usually recommended for professional tooth whitening, but this is highly individual as it depends on the desired outcome, the individual’s diet, genetics and lifestyle choices (such as smoking). You may choose to buy more bleaching material for touch-ups in the future. After the kit is complete you have the option to come in for a third visit to assess the results and discuss whether you’d like to explore any additional options.

Make sure a white smile is part of your first impression – book an appointment for Airdrie teeth whitening at Yankee Valley Dental!

How do I take care of baby teeth?2023-09-06T13:35:53-06:00

While baby teeth will fall out at some point, they play a major role in helping your little one bite, eat, and speak. They also eventually guide permanent teeth into place. Taking care of baby teeth is also important because studies show that children who develop cavities in their baby teeth are more likely to develop cavities as an adult.

How do I know if my child has a cavity?2023-09-06T13:37:08-06:00

This is one of the most obvious signs that your child is suffering from cavities. All you need to do is ask your child to open his/her mouth and then check their teeth. Sometimes, instead of holes, there may be cracks or chips.

How do I Know if Implants are the Right Option for Me?2018-07-19T16:50:29-06:00

There is a lot to consider when deciding if dental implants are the right option for you. It’s important that the rest of the mouth is healthy prior to choosing to have a dental implant. Dental implants can get bone loss around them just like teeth, and patients with gum disease or periodontitis.

Smoking can decrease the success rate of dental implants. If you are a smoker, it is highly recommended to consider cessation prior to getting dental implants. Diabetes can also be a factor in whether your dental implants integrate, however, if your diabetes is under control, you may still be a good candidate for dental implants. Other systemic conditions that may affect the success of dental implants are autoimmune diseases. Dr. Parsa will spent a lot of time discussing your medical health to decide with you if dental implant is a suitable option for you.

How Do I Know If I Need A Root Canal?2018-07-20T14:26:46-06:00

Some signs that you may need a root canal include:

Pain or a toothache
Pain when you chew or put pressure on the tooth
Extreme sensitivity to hot or cold
Headaches
Pain in your jaw
Pressure in your sinuses

On occasion, you may not have symptoms, which is why regular check-ups with your dentist are important.

Tooth pain doesn’t always need root canal treatment, it could be a sign of dental recession, problems with the jaw joint, sinus congestion or gum disease. Dr. Parsa will examine your mouth and discuss with you the problem and possible solutions.

How Do I Know If I Have Gum Disease?2018-07-20T12:41:03-06:00

Gums that easily bleed,

swollen, red or tender gums,

receding gums,

chronic bad breath,

a bad taste in your mouth,

change in the way your teeth come together,

tooth pain or sensitivity,

teeth that are loose or mobile

Does Acidic Foods Damage My Teeth?2018-07-21T18:06:26-06:00

Sweets have a bad reputation for causing cavities, but acid can actually do damage much more quickly. What your consuming does not have to be ‘unhealthy’ to cause damage to teeth. Many people put lemon in their water to be healthy, but but acid can not only cause erosion, but it takes away the mineralizes in the teeth that are the building blocks of enamel. This can lead to cavities formation very quickly.

Dental Education for Your Family2018-07-05T22:37:33-06:00

Good dental health requires daily care. Dr. Parsa will take the time to teach you and your entire family how to take care of your teeth, no matter what state they are in. If you have small kids, she’ll teach you some tricks of the trade. Have a new implant or crown?  She’ll teach you how to take care of it so that you can have a lasting smile.

Dental Bridges or Partial Dentures? Which is better?2018-07-17T22:51:27-06:00

Bridges are often a great option because they are permanent, and you don’t have to worry about taking them out at night or losing them. To take care of your bridge, you’ll need to brush and floss daily to keep them free from plaque and tartar, just like the rest of your teeth.

While dental bridges have many benefits, they might not be an option if you don’t have enough healthy teeth to stabilize a bridge or if you are under budgetary constraints. A consultation with Dr. Prasa will help you make an informed choice about what option works best for you.

Common Dental Issues for Kids2018-07-20T21:41:20-06:00

Can Veneers Give Me Whiter Teeth?2018-07-20T14:28:08-06:00

Veneers have gained a lot of popularity and have been associated with the ‘Hollywood Smile’ for a reason.  They can conceal imperfections in colour and shape, and are much more conservative than dental crowns.  Sometimes porcelain veneers can even improve the appearance of the alignment of teeth, and can mask underlining crowding or spacing.  Speak to Dr. Parsa about whether porcelain veneers are an appropriate option for you!

At what age should my child visit the dentist?2023-09-06T13:36:26-06:00

The Canadian Dental Association suggests children come in for their first dentist appointment either at 12 months old or six months after the growth of their first tooth. We do free checkups for all kids three and under until they are comfortable enough to have their teeth polished. However, a good rule of thumb is to bring your child in for a dental checkup every six months.

The goal of the first few visits is to make kids comfortable and create positive experiences. Friendly and enthusiastic, Dr. Parsa engages your children. The first visits are kept simple, exposing your child to the dentist’s office and getting them comfortable in the dentist’s chair. Depending on their openness to the experience, Dr. Parsa might count your child’s teeth or place a device in their mouth. Excitement and positive reinforcement are essential to every visit!

Are Dental Implants An Option If I Don’t Have Any Teeth?2018-07-17T22:58:48-06:00

Patients who have been wearing poorly-fitting dentures can especially benefit from dental implants. As little as two implants on the bottom jaw can make a huge difference in how retentive your denture is. Three or four implants on the bottom jaw are even better as the denture is completely supported by the implants themselves and this allows little to no contact of the denture with the gum tissue. If you have been wearing a denture that isn’t fitting well, implants may drastically improve the quality of your life.

It is important to know that dental implants need to be cleaned just like the roots of your teeth. Patients who have not had any teeth for some time may have gotten used to not getting dental cleanings. Dental implants accumulate plaque and tartar like natural teeth, and if not professionally cleaned, will be susceptible to gum disease

Testimonial of Our Service

I saw Dr. Parsa to get my wisdom teeth removed when she was working in Calgary. I had been told by another general dentist that I have to see the specialist to get them out but put it off because it was hundreds of dollars just for the consultation. I was in soooo much pain when I saw Dr. Parsa and was so relieved when she was able to take them out for me. It saved me a lot of money since my insurance covered her fees. I also had sedation since I was really nervous about the procedure and don’t think I could have gone through it without. So grateful that she was able to help me out. I highly recommended Dr. Parsa anyone looking for a dentist!
