Periodontal Dental Care

Some patients build little tartar, while others are prone to more ‘build-up’. Dr. Parsa has the ability to use her intra-oral camera to show patients before and after photos of the cleaning.

Your Airdrie Periodontal and Gum Disease Professionals

Gum disease is one of the most common dental problems for adults and one of the main reasons people lose their teeth. Yankee Valley Dental in Airdrie will help keep your gums clean, and if needed, treat your periodontal issues. At every appointment, Dr. Parsa does regular gum hygiene for patients, including removing plaque and tartar from around your gums and monitoring for signs of periodontal disease.

Treating Gum Disease

If Dr. Parsa notices an issue, she’ll ensure you understand the extent of the issue by using a large screen to show photos of your mouth and she will take the time to explain the concerns. She’ll do ‘scaling’ and ‘root plaining’ around your gums, which means using a professional dental cleaning tool to get rid of all the plaque and tartar around the gumline and deeper into the roots of the teeth. Comfort is always a priority at Yankee Valley Dental, and she may ask you if you’d like to use ‘freezing’ (local anesthetic) to minimize the discomfort.

At Yankee Valley Dental we provide all the services that you need to attain a smile that you feel be confident about.

The earliest stage of gum disease is called gingivitis and at this stage the condition can be reversed since the bone and connective tissue are still intact. In the progressing stages, periodontitis, the bone and fibers holding the teeth are irreversibly damaged and this could result in the loss of the tooth. Dr. Parsa may recommend antibiotics or mouth rinses and gels to help reduce the bacterial inflection. Depending on the severity of the gum disease, Dr. Parsa suggest you to seek treatment with a periodontist (a gum specialist) until the gum disease is in remission.

Of course, Dr. Parsa will also provide you with advice on how to prevent gum disease in the future, including showing you how to properly brush or floss as well as recommend antibacterial toothpastes or mouthwashes to reduce the amount of plaque in your mouth.

The best way to deal with gum disease is not to get it in the first place. Book an appointment at Yankee Valley Dental and prevent or treat your gums with Airdrie periodontal care from Dr. Parsa.
